King Salman academy launches linguistic platform, plans another for science

RIYADH: A specialist platform for linguistic dictionaries has been launched by King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language.

Siwar is dedicated to publishing, composing and managing dictionaries in accordance with the latest scientific methodologies of Arabic lexicography.

It will help users conduct advanced searches and enable lexicographers to compile, publish and manage dictionaries through artificial intelligence technologies.

Currently there are 10 linguistic dictionaries and more than 180,000 lexical entries on the Siwar platform.

Features include complete control of the authoring process, allowing lexicographers to add team members, distribute tasks, create reports, generate user statistics and much more. It also allows users to enrich the dictionaries by suggesting new terminologies for inclusion.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Washmi, secretary-general of the academy, told Arab News the academy planned to launch another platform, this time specializing in scientific terminology, within two months. This would be in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization

He said Siwar offered access to a wide range of linguistic resources and had a well-organized interface that made for a user-friendly experience, enhancing the lexical abilities of those who accessed it.

Al-Washmi said: “We seek to make the platform the first gate for specialists to reach linguistic information.”
