The introduction of Terminal 3 signifies a leap forward in airport infrastructure, designed to accommodate a substantial surge in passenger traffic. Initially catering to up to 80 lakh passengers annually, Terminal 3 is slated for further expansion to accommodate 1.3 crore passengers by the completion of Phase 2. This expansion mirrors Lucknow’s rising stature as a pivotal commercial and tourist destination, necessitating infrastructure upgrades to meet growing travel demands.
Terminal 3 will host operations for major domestic airlines including IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, Air India Express, Air Asia India, Fly Big, and Star Air. These carriers are actively collaborating with airport authorities to ensure a seamless transition, prioritising operational efficiency and passenger convenience.
While domestic flights consolidate into Terminal 3, international flights will maintain operations from Terminal 1. This segregation aims to alleviate congestion and streamline security and immigration procedures for international travelers.
IndiGo, a prominent domestic carrier, has proactively communicated the operational shift to affected passengers. Utilizing SMS, calls, and emails, the airline is ensuring passengers and travel agents are informed well in advance. Passengers are encouraged to verify terminal information through IndiGo’s digital platforms to minimize confusion on travel day.
This operational realignment is poised to bolster the travel and tourism sector in Lucknow. Enhanced airport facilities and increased capacity can accommodate a higher influx of visitors, potentially catalyzing local tourism and business activities.
